Sports Leaders

Eversley Sports Leaders

At Eversley, we have our Year 6 Sports Leaders as part of our PE provision, who regularly meet to discuss any ideas regarding physical education. Sports leaders have an opportunity to share their own thoughts and opinions with the group and collectively agree on any decisions that are made.

Sports Leaders apply at the start of each academic year by writing a letter of application stating why they think they would make an excellent candidate for the job and most importantly, why they want to be one!

Sports Leaders are trained at the beginning of the year to lead activities and games with younger children and are taught the important qualities that are needed when working with young people. Once they have become qualified and received their certificates, Sports Leaders work with Key Stage 1 children during lunchtimes each week to lead games and ensure playtimes are inclusive for everyone and that no child is left alone with no one to play with. This role develops important values such a patience, friendship, compassion and kindness as well as building their confidence and communication skills throughout the year.

Sports Leaders help to organise and lead events such as Sports Day, Sport Relief and give opinions on what they would like our PE and sport provision at Eversley to offer in the future. They also have the opportunity to work with the Enfield PE team at borough sports events, where they develop their skills further by leading activities with a range of children from different schools across Enfield.

Eversley Equipment Monitors

We also have our Year 4 Equipment Monitors as part of our PE provision, who support our Play Leaders at lunchtimes to collect and store all of our play equipment safely at the end of each lunchtime.

Being an Equipment Monitor is the first step into sports leadership at Eversley and builds up key skills in responsibility, communication, cooperation and teamwork. It also supports our pupils into developing into a Year 6 Sports Leader as they move through the school.
